5. Polyurethane
Another alternative to Green Glue, Polyurethane is a super-tough varnish which is formulated for its microscopic chain of resin molecules will bond firmly as it dries. This results in a finish which is more resistant to abrasion, solvents, water, and impacts than conventional varnishes.
Some polyurethane have oils which give the wood a warm and amber tone. You can use water-based polyurethane if you want your wood to retain its light color.
Kinds of Polyurethane
Oil-based Polyurethane: This turns a bit amber, and warms up the color of your wood. It forms a durable film, is higher in VOCs, and dries slower than water-based polyurethane. You can clean with mineral spirits. Check photos and user reviews here
Water-based: This looks like milk in a can, but it dries crystal clear. It’s good for preserving the color of your wood. It needs more coats it is more watery than the oil-based polyurethanes.
